McManus issues ‘massive’ Callum McGregor claim after Celtic development

There is no danger of Callum McGregor leaving Celtic as he plans to see out his career at Parkhead.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the midfielder’s return from injury.

McGregor, 29, returned to the Celtic starting XI for the first time since 5 October when his side faced Aberdeen on Saturday (17 December).

The Hoops captain was the man to break the deadlock as he fired home a long-range effort with three minutes of normal time remaining, handing his side the win.

After picking up where he left off before his injury, McManus insists McGregor will not be looking for a move away from Parkhead.

“He’s a top player, I genuinely believe he could go and play anywhere, I really think that,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“He’s at Celtic now though and I think he will see his career out there. I don’t think there is any danger of him leaving, put it that way.

“Celtic dominated the game but didn’t quite have the cutting edge on the day so it was always going to take something special to break the deadlock.

“We have seen it so many times under Ange Postecoglou. It’s that ‘we never stop’ mantra, it’s so true. Celtic never give up, never give in and they got their reward at the end of the game.

“I have said before how important McGregor is to this side, he is a massive presence in that midfield.

When he was out injured the guys who replaced him did okay but they couldn’t repeat what he did in the middle.

“I think he is going to want to make up for lost time now so I would expect more performances like that.”

In other news, McManus has backed Celtic to complete a striker signing after fans start turning on Kyogo Furuhashi.
