McManus issues ‘remarkable’ Aaron Mooy verdict after ‘surprise’ Celtic development
Aaron Mooy’s “remarkable” Celtic form is all down to Ange Postecoglou.
That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the midfielder’s recent impressive form.
Mooy, 32, joined Celtic from Shanghai Port in the summer on a two-year deal, having previously worked with Postecoglou when he was the manager of Australia.
The former Brighton man has started five of the Hoops’ last eight Premiership games after initially failing to start any of his first nine league games.
Mooy has scored four goals and provided two assists in his recent run of starts and McManus has been left pleasantly surprised.
“I have been surprised by his role at the club,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.
“He came in, obviously he knew the manager from the national team and Ange rarely gets transfers wrong, so we should have known.
“It’s so hard to get into that Celtic midfield as well, there is so much quality there. So maybe you think Mooy is only going to make a few cameos, maybe the odd start in the cup.
“But he has been brilliant recently. I didn’t think I would be seeing him this prolific in front of goal as well, that’s been the remarkable thing.
“You just hope he can keep it going, there is no reason why he can’t. He has been one of their signings of the season.
“He’s a great role model for the younger players as well, great move all around.”

Mooy has made 32 appearances for Celtic this season with the club nine points clear at the top of the table.
He has also played for Huddersfield, Melbourne City and St Mirren.
In other news, McManus has issued a ‘big’ Giorgos Giakoumakis claim after a ‘surprise’ Celtic development.
