McManus tells Georgios Giakoumakis to copy Rangers star as 'terrible' Celtic footage analysed

Georgios Giakoumakis may find his chances limited at Celtic after another “terrible” penalty miss.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the striker’s recent performances.

Giakoumakis, 27, missed a late penalty against Livingston on Sunday (30 October), dragging his effort onto the outside of the post.

The striker has been in fine form this season, scoring eight goals in 18 total appearances.

However, McManus fears Giakoumakis’ confidence may be knocked by this latest miss.

“He also missed one in the last minute against Livingston last season but that was at Parkhead,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“Celtic drew 0-0 in that game but luckily it didn’t cost them in the long term. It was a terrible penalty, there is no getting away from that. He just drags it wide.

“I don’t think he will be on them now. I know Celtic won anyway but every side needs a player who can consistently take and score penalties.

“When you get a penalty, it needs to be a goal. Think of Tavernier at Rangers, that being said he missed one at the weekend as well.

“Celtic will pick another penalty taker and, listen, Giakoumakis has been quality for Celtic. He just can’t score from the spot.

“He scores a lot of other excellent goals so hopefully this doesn’t derail him.”

Giakoumakis scored 17 in 29 appearances during his first season at Parkhead.

Celtic are next in action against Dundee United on Saturday (5 November).
