McNeil and Tarkowski react to Jarrad Branthwaite announcement at Everton
Dwight McNeil and James Tarkowski reacted to the latest Jarrad Branthwaite announcement emerging from Everton.
The 22-year-old has become an integral part of the Toffees’ starting lineup over the last two seasons, forming an incredible bond with Tarkowski ahead of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
His appearances, of which he has made 73 since returning from his PSV loan, have caught the attention of several teams, with Mick Brown telling Football Insider that Chelsea have joined the race for Branthwaite’s signature.
After missing out on Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for upcoming international fixtures, Branthwaite has been tipped to depart Everton this summer, though David Moyes would love to keep him at the club.
The central defender is now being awarded for his incredible displays on Merseyside, being noticed as the best young player at the manager’s disposal throughout the 2024/25 campaign.

Jarrad Branthwaite lifts Everton award
Taking to Instagram (29 May), the official club account wrote: “2024/25 Men’s Young Player of the Season winner… Jarrad Branthwaite!” following another commendable set of displays at the back.
McNeil and Tarkowski both liked the announcement, having worked closely with the 22-year-old over the last two seasons, supporting his teammate on the social media post.
David Moyes must prepare for multiple Everton exits
Football Insider verdict
Branthwaite is likely the most valuable currently on the books on Merseyside, so it will be an incredibly difficult decision to make on his future should clubs come calling for his signature again.
Liverpool and Man United have been heavily linked with the central defender, and given his maturity in defence at just 22 years of age, it is really no surprise.
The Friedkin Group‘s takeover should help the Toffees to keep many of their biggest stars this summer, but with the price tags being floated about for Branthwaite, it might be too difficult to ignore.

Football Insider understands that Everton have made contact to sign Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, potentially as a replacement for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is out of contract this summer.
Angel Gomes is also being looked at by Everton, Football Insider understands, but the Toffees face a difficult battle to sign the free agent following his exit from Lille at the end of this season.
Due to the new owner’s influx of cash, excitement is building ahead of the summer transfer window, but it may not help keep the likes of Branthwaite should big offers arrive over the coming weeks.
