Medical booked: Aston Villa agree deal to sign Morgan Rogers after Unai Emery intervention – sources

Aston Villa have had a bid accepted for Middlesborough winger Morgan Rogers and he is due for a medical in the next 24 hours (31 January), sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed the two clubs have agreed a fee of around £16million including add-ons for the 21-year-old’s services.

Villa have already agreed personal terms with Rogers – who was made the Midlands club’s top target for the January window.

Football Insider revealed last week (25 January) that manager Unai Emery was pushing hard to complete a deal for the Middlesbrough star – and he has now got his wish following further intervention from the Spaniard.

It is believed that Emery had immediately instructed Villa’s recruitment team to pursue Rogers after he faced Villa in the third round of the FA Cup earlier this month (6 January).

Scouts from Villa attended to watch Rogers in Middlesbrough’s 1-1 draw against Rotherham on 20 January.

The winger only joined Boro on a permanent deal from Man City last summer (2023) – and the treble-winners will be due a portion of the transfer fee when his move goes through.

Rogers has notched seven goals and nine assists across 33 appearances in all competitions in his debut season for Michael Carrick’s side.

Villa have already secured the signing of Red Star Belgrade star Kosta Nedeljkovic in January and the Serbian has been loaned back for the remainder of this season.

Emery’s side sit fourth in the Premier League table ahead of their next clash against Newcastle on Tuesday (30 January).
