Medical complete: Celtic on the verge of third summer signing – report

By Danny Wright

Olivier Ntcham completed his medical with Celtic on Saturday night ahead of a £4million move from Manchester City, according to a report.

The Scottish Sun claims that the 21-year-old is on the verge of becoming Brendan Rodgers’ third signing of the summer, following in the footsteps of Jonny Hayes and Kundai Benyu.

It is understood that Ntcham could feature for Celtic as soon as Friday, when the Scottish treble winners come to blows with Linfield in the second qualifying round of the Champions League.

The report says that Rodgers became interested in the French midfielder after a move for Chelsea’s Charley Musonda failed to materialise.

Ntcham has spent the last two seasons on loan in Italy with Serie A outfit Genoa but had failed to earn a single senior appearance for City since arriving in England in 2012 after stints with Paris FC and Le Havre.

He played 23 times for Geona last term, scoring three goals and supplying one assist as he largely struggled to hold down a regular first team spot due to injuries.

Football Insider Verdict

The signing of Ntcham could quite possibly be the most exciting one that Rodgers makes this summer. The midfielder is exactly what the Hoops need as he offers a long-term solution to an area that has consistently been ravaged by injuries. Ntcham would do wonders alongside Scott Brown in the heart of the Bhoys midfield, while he also offers versatility and can slot into a No 10 position or on either wing. He can bring a new dimension to the Celtic attack and £4million is basically a steal for a player who has been plying his trade in the Serie A for the last two seasons and has his best years ahead of him.
