Medical Insider: ‘Alarm bells ringing’ as new Heung-min Son information emerges from Tottenham
There are “alarm bells ringing” after Heung-min Son was forced off with a head injury as Tottenham beat Marseille 2-1 on Tuesday (1 November).
That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.
Son was forced off just before the half-hour mark against Marseille after a collision with Chancel Mbemba.
Tottenham revealed on Wednesday (2 November) that Son will undergo surgery to stabilise a fracture around his left eye and game no time frame on when he could return to action.
The club say that Son will begin a rehabilitation programme with their medical staff after the operation and they intend to update supporters on the time-frame of his absence in due course.
They did not want to say on Wednesday night whether he was out of the World Cup because it will depend on the surgery and how his recovery goes.
“Post-match evaluations indicate that it was more towards left-eye,” Dinnery told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.
“We’ve seen images post-match and it looks as though he is struggling to actually open that eye. Early reports from outlets in Korea suggested it could be an orbital fracture.
“Straight away there are alarm bells ringing there.
“The full extent, we don’t really know. The assistant coach, Cristian Stellini, said post-game that there could be a concussion as well as the issue with the eye.
“What we are seeing, there is certainly a concern.
“You see the team celebrating their victory with the last kick of the ball and everyone is smiling and jumping around. Yes, Heung-min Son is there which is good but he’s not smiling and struggling to open his eye.

“With the quick turnaround, even if it was just an impact injury and there was heavy bruising, there will be question marks in regards to him playing at the weekend.
“If subsequent assessments reveal a concussion then he’s out of the game, there are no grey areas.”
In other news, an “embarrassing” Tottenham player should never play again as “disgraceful” footage emerges.
