Medical Insider issues 'huge' Antony claim after 'problematic' Man United injury reveal
Antony may not feature for Man United before the World Cup despite being named in the Brazil squad.
That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
Antony has not featured since he was taken off at half-time during Man Untied’s 3-0 win over Sheriff last month (27 October).
As quoted by club media on Wednesday (9 November), Erik ten Hag revealed he had to wait until further training sessions to determine whether the 22-year-old will feature against Aston Villa on Thursday (10 November).
“In terms of that injury and the potential impact it could have had on his selection for Brazil, it was never really seen as a major issue,” Dinnery told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.
“I know Erik ten Hag initially referred to that as being very minor and he thought he would miss a Europa League game and a Premier League fixture then be back.

“It has extended beyond that so maybe, I wouldn’t say it was serious, but it was more problematic than first thought.
“It’s an issue that is addressed on the daily basis. Even if Antony doesn’t play in the Carabao Cup or in gameweek 16 at the weekend, then I don’t really foresee any major issues in regard to his availability for Brazil.
“We’re looking at Serbia on 24 November and we’re talking about a player who hasn’t spent a significant period on the sidelines so there will not be any huge drop off in terms of match fitness and sharpness.
“Once cleared, he should be able to transition fairly seamlessly from treatment room to that squad and I’m sure he’ll be absolutely fine.”
