Medical insider issues ‘life on the line’ claim as controversial Man City image emerges

More needs to be done to tackle fan behaviour after the Man City team coach was attacked before their 1-0 loss to Liverpool last week (16 October).

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

BBC News reported on Thursday (20 October) that the police had launched an investigation into the attack on the Man City bus outside Anfield.

An image has emerged that showed damage to the windscreen of the bus.

“It needs to be managed a lot better than it has been done,” Dinnery told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“This is not the first time this has happened and it’s not just Liverpool, we’ve seen it at other grounds. Thankfully, up to this point, we havent’ really had any serious issues arise from this.

“There was the Champions League game with Borussia Dortmund where there was an incident and the game was postponed.

“Those sorts of incidents are rare but in this day and age they need to be policed a lot better, in my opinion.

“Incidents like Sunday cannot happen. It doesn’t sit very well. It’s bubbling under the surface and if it is left unchecked it can become a lot more serious.

“In terms of the players getting to the ground, it’s one thing when you see crowds outside your window and they are singing and use smoke bombs and there’s intimidation. You can almost zone out of that, you can put your headphones on.

“When it crosses that line and windows are becoming cracked and missiles are being thrown at the buses, it’s just a game. It’s not worth putting your life on the line like at that Dortmund game.

“In the modern world, that is a serious and realistic threat to life just by the very nature in where we seem to be at this point in time.

“It only needs to happen once and that once is too many times.”
