Medical Insider: Reece James and Chelsea teammate set for 'huge' hidden boost after confirmed news
Reece James and Wesley Fofana will be given a “huge” hidden psychological boost by travelling to Dubai to continue their recovery away from Chelsea.
That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
James, 22, has not featured for Chelsea since suffering a knee injury in the 2-0 win over AC Milan at Stamford Bridge last month (11 October) which has put his participation in the World Cup in doubt.
Fofana, 21, also suffered a knee injury and has not featured since the 3-0 victory over the same opponent at San Siro last month (5 October).
Chelsea confirmed earlier this week (31 October) that a member of their medical staff had accompanied the duo in Dubai as they step up their recovery.
“Look, a lot of the time when people talk about injuries they focus on the limitations of the injury physically,” Dinnery told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“Psychologically, retaining that positive mindset has a huge impact on a player. So it’s a change of scenery, a change of dynamic, a bit of sun and the ability to train outside with different people and different objectives away from the distractions of family life.
“They are saying ‘Look, there’s an opportunity we can be selected by our national team bosses, let’s give ourselves the best opportunity to do that where we can live and breathe this recovery process and give it a real go’.
“Fingers crossed they come through that and are going to give their countries a question and it will come down to them on whether they are prepared to take a risk on players who haven’t played competitive football for a number of weeks.”
