Medical passed: West Ham agree Coventry deal after bid accepted – sources
West Ham have agreed the permanent transfer of Conor Coventry to Charlton Athletic, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed that the 23-year-old has already passed his medical ahead of his move to the Valley.
Charlton will pay a fee of around £1million for the midfielder and beat Championship side Sheffield Wednesday to his signature.
The defensive midfielder made 10 senior appearances for the Hammers, the club he joined aged 10, and was hopeful of earning more first-team action this season.
However, he has been overlooked by David Moyes having not been fielded this season and is set for his first permanent move away following multiple loan spells.
Coventry has had temporary moves to League One with Lincoln City and MK Dons as well as Championship stints with Peterborough and most recently Rotherham in the second half of last season.
His contract was due to expire at the end of this season, and the club have taken the chance now to cash in on the Republic of Ireland youth international this month.
He now returns to League One with the 13th-place Addicks, who have failed to win a game in their last nine attempts across all competitions.
Coventry has been a regular feature of the Republic of Ireland’s youth set-up and has made appearances at most levels from the under-16s to the under-21s.
He is the most capped player at the under-21 level for the young Boys in Green.
West Ham sit sixth in the Premier League following their 0-0 draw to Brighton on 2 January and next face Bristol City in their FA Cup third-round replay on Tuesday (16 January).
