James Bree is on the verge of joining Luton Town on loan from Aston Villa in a last-gasp deadline day move, Football Insider can reveal.
The right-back, 21, has been given the green light to go out on loan by Dean Smith for the 2019-20 campaign after slipping down the pecking order following the club’s massive summer overhaul.
A Villa source has told Football Insider that Bree is set for a Luton medical today after the terms of the loan move were agreed between the two clubs.
The Championship club have swooped for the defender after selling full-back duo James Justin and Jack Stacey, to Leicester City and Bournemouth respectively.
Smith is willing for Bree to be loaned out as he is behind Frederic Guilbert and Ahmed Elmohamady in the race for the right-back slot in the new season.
The Frenchman has joined from Caen after being loaned back to the Ligue 2 club in January following his initial capture, and has impressed in pre-season.
Bree spent the second half of last season on loan at former Championship rivals Ipswich Town, where he made 14 appearances in all competitions.
The defender has played 28 times for Villa since signing from Barnsley in 2017.
In other Aston Villa news, it can be REVEALED that the club are working on a deal to sign another West Brom star.
