Medical today: Everton left footer heads to coast, rising star new deal also agreed - Sources

Everton defender Lewis Gibson is heading to Fleetwood Town today for a medical as he puts the finishing touches to a deadline-day transfer, Football Insider has learned.

The left footed centre-back, 19, is set to join the League One club on loan for the rest of the season.

An Everton source has told Football Insider that Gibson is set to head to the Fylde coast today to complete the move to Fleetwood after the terms of the deal were finalised last night.

An announcement will be made over the loan after Gibson has also signed a new long-term Everton contract.

Discussions over an extension for the in-demand teenager have intensified over the last month and he has been convinced his future is best served by staying at Goodison Park in the long term.

Gibson has been increasingly frustrated at his failure to break into the senior Everton squad despite winning plenty of admirers with the quality of his Under-23s performances.

He is out of contract at the end of the season but Everton and their recruitment chief Marcel Brands have moved to keep him.

Gibson, who they signed for £1m rising to a potential £6m from Newcastle United in 2017, is regarded as a huge talent capable of establishing himself in their first team in the future.

He has been the subject of widespread interest this month, both for loan and permanent deals.

Fleetwood, who are managed by Joey Barton, are 11th in League One and and see Gibson as a key addition as they make a late push for promotion.

In other Everton news, it can be REVEALED that Marcel Brands has opened defender talks as valuation rockets to £30m+.
