Medical underway: Barnsley agree deal to sign Fleetwood Town star Josh Earl

Fleetwood Town left-back Josh Earl is set to undergo a medical with Barnsley today after the clubs agreed a fee sources have told Football Insider.

Earl, 25, was due to be out of contract at Fleetwood this summer and Barnsley have moved to sign the versatile defender before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

The former Preston man is set to hold talks and undergo a medical on Tuesday at Barnsley.

The defender has made 28 appearances for Charlie Adams’ side this season and has scored four goals and provided one assist.

He started his career at Preston and was sent out on loan to Lancaster City, Bolton, Ipswich Town and Burton Albion before moving to the Fishermen permanently in 2022.

His versatility has allowed him to play at left-back, centre-back and in left midfield this season.

League One strugglers Fleetwood were keen to cash in on the defender now before his contract expires, and now he is set to move to the promotion-chasing Barnsley.
