Medical underway: Motherwell agree deal for Hibs star Paul McGinn - Sources

Paul McGinn is undergoing a medical at Motherwell with a view to a move from Hibs, Football Insider understands.

The versatlie defender, 31, only signed a new contract with Hibs earlier this month (2 June).

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that he is now set to sign for Scottish Premiership rivals Motherwell instead.

It seems he does not feature in the plans of Lee Johnson who took over as manager at Easter Road at the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

Despite struggling with injury towards the end of the 2021-22 campaign, McGinn made 34 appearnces across all competitions.

That triggered a one-year extension to his contract but his time at the club is seemingly up.

The Glasgow-born ace, who can play at right-back and centre-back, has been a regular for the Hibees since his arrival from St. Mirren in January 2020.

His form for the Edinburgh club saw him earn his Scotland debut last September (2021) in a 1-0 win over Austria.

He looks set to end his Hibs career with six goals and nine assists in 91 games and a Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup runners-up medal.

Hibs finished eighth in the Scottish Premiership in the 2021-22 season and Johnson replaced Shaun Maloney as manager as a result.

Graham Alexander’s Motherwell secured a top-half finish and ended up in fifth-place, securing a place in the Europa Conference League for 2022-23.

They will face either Bala Town of Wales or Ireland’s Sligo Rovers in the second qualifying round next month.

In other news, Brighton & Hove Albion have joined Rangers in a race to sign a Motherwell sensation.
