Revealed: Rick Parry stance has big effect for Leeds & West Brom ahead of EFL meeting today

EFL chairman Rick Parry is personally backing plans for the Championship season to be completed in a huge boost to Leeds United and West Brom, Football Insider understands.

The former Premier League and Liverpool chief executive will chair a meeting of the EFL board today to discuss measures to deal with the coronavirus outbreak.

A Championship source has told Football Insider that Parry is a strong supporter of completing the season before the next one starts in order to protect the integrity of the competition.

This comes after all 24 second-tier clubs held a video conference on Tuesday and unanimously agreed to try and complete the season.

This, combined with Parry’s position, is a massive boost for Leeds and West Brom hopes of realising their promotion dreams.

The potential for litigation from leading Championship clubs missing out on the vast broadcasting windfalls from Premier League promotion is also a major consideration ahead of top-flight clubs meeting separately in an emergency session tomorrow.

Leeds and West Brom, who are well clear at the top of the Championship with nine match remaining, could make legal moves against the Premier League.

The other top-six clubs have also strongly expressed their desire to play the remaining fixtures, at the earliest opportunity.

Fulham, Brentford, Nottingham Forest and Preston North End currently occupy the Championship play-off places, with Charlton Athletic, Luton Town and Barnsley in the relegation zone.

The final round of Championship fixtures was due to take place on Saturday 2 May.

In other Leeds United news, Noel Whelan has tipped the club to make jawdropping £35million goal machine signing and claimed it is a real possibility.
