Mega-rich mystery Sheffield Wednesday ‘fan’ has saved the club – Finance expert

Sheffield Wednesday supporters have played a huge role in helping the club survive as administrators look to complete a full takeover.

That is according to football finance expert Dr Dan Plumley who exclusively told Football Insider the positive implications of the money Sheffield Wednesday supporters have put into the club.

Sheffield Wednesday were placed into administration and handed a 12 point deduction last month, ending the Djephon Chansiri era at Hillsborough.

11 interested parties have since put themselves forward to take over the club, with John Textor a high-profile name who could buy Sheffield Wednesday.

Wednesday fans have been ‘brilliant’ in time of need

Sheffield Wednesday supporters have returned to Hillsborough to support the team, with fans staying away before administration had been confirmed.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Plumley now believes there is little the fans can do as talks between the administrators and interested parties take place.

There’s nothing else at the minute for the fans. You know, we’ve seen that the fans have been brilliant,” Plumley said.

Getting back on board and into the club, we know that the wages have been paid. We know there’s a fan actually that’s put in a million pounds, an anonymous fan, that has helped with the wages, and they’ll be paid for December and January.

That gives the administrators just that little bit of breathing room to be able to let this process run, because the bills are being paid.

So, yeah, a bit of a waiting game, but, in a positive sense that, you know, that gives some time to look at these businesses properly.

Wednesday can sign free agents after EFL approval

Sheffield Wednesday have been able to sign Liam Cooper to the squad, after the EFL allowed the Yorkshire club to sign free agents.

Henrik Pedersen is now able to strengthen the squad, with his side currently rooted to the bottom of the Championship table with minus four points.

Sheffield Wednesday are 17 points off safety, and face their rivals and fellow strugglers Sheffield United in the Steel City derby next.
