Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has made his prediction for the David Moyes’ first game in charge of West Ham.
The Premier League returns this weekend with the Hammers’ taking on Marco Silva’s Watford at Vicarage Road on Sunday and Merson has told Sky Sports he is expecting a 1-1 draw.
Moyes took over at the London Stadium last week, replacing former boss Slaven Bilic, who was sacked after the 4-1 defeat to Liverpool before the international break.
The former Everton, Manchester United and Sunderland boss signed a six-month contract with the Premier League side and has until the end of the season to impress the club’s owners.
However, Merson insists the Hammers fans are not happy with the appointment and that Moyes must deliver results attacking football.
“David Moyes is in a catch 22 because the fans are going to be on his back from day one,” said Merson,
“He will have to go out and have a go at Watford, if they sit back and draw 0-0, the fans will not be happy at all.”
Moyes has taken over a side who are in the Premier League’s bottom-three and without a win in their last four league matches. The Hammers also have the worst defensive record in the league this season, conceding 23 goals.
Meanwhile, Watford fans have enjoyed a solid start to the season under Silva, who has been strongly linked with the vacant managerial role at Everton.
The hornets sit ninth in the Premier League table, despite losing their last three matches. Silva will be hoping his side can return to winning ways at the expensive of Moyes and West Ham.
