Michael Beale 'put hook on Alfredo Morelos' amid 'worrying' Rangers claim - expert

Frank McAvennie has claimed Rangers fans “won’t be disappointed” to see Alfredo Morelos leave this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said that “the sooner Morelos is out the door the better” after a tough spell for the striker.

The 26-year-old is out of contract in the summer and has been the subject of speculation throughout the season.

On Tuesday (9 May), sources told this site that the Gers opened talks with the forward over a new deal, despite Michael Beale claiming no contract was offered.

On Sunday (8 May), after the 1-0 victory over Aberdeen, Beale confirmed Morelos will be “moving on” from Ibrox in the summer.

The Light Blues boss was unimpressed with the Colombian’s cameo on Sunday and slammed his energy levels during his time on the pitch.

Morelos has been the subject of controversy in recent seasons and questions have been raised over his fitness, attitude and form.

There is no doubt that, when fit, Morelos has been one of the best players for Rangers but the forward has let himself down throughout this campaign.

McAvennie has been disappointed seeing the striker’s downturn in form.

He has had chance after chance after chance,” he told Football Insider.

“Michael Beale has put his hook on him and said ‘that is my man’ and he has not done it for him. I would rather play one of the boys from the youth team, you will get more movement out of them than you will out of Morelos.

I really do not know where he is going to go. It is a worrying time and the fans should be disappointed and rightly so because he has given absolutely nothing to Rangers.

The sooner he is out the door the better. I do not think the fans will be disappointed to see him go.
