Michael Dawson loses it live on Sky Sports at Tottenham incident vs Man City
Michael Dawson could not believe his eyes as an incident involving Wilson Odobert unravelled in before him as Man City beat Tottenham 1-0 on Wednesday.
Pep Guardiola’s side had taken an early lead through Erling Haaland, who returned to the Man City squad after injury, firing home after a ball into the middle from Jeremy Doku.
Doku continued his fine form after troubling Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, setting up the Norwegian for his 20th Premier League goal of the season.
However, Ange Postecoglou’s team had the perfect chance to score an equaliser, with Odobert leaving the Sky Sports pundit absolutely baffled live on air.
Wilson Odobert fails to convert chance against Man City
Speaking via Sky Sports’ Soccer Special [26 February, 8:42pm], Dawson was shocked as a golden opportunity suddenly materialised amid a struggling performance.
He said: “They have to make changes because, Man City, I’m not too sure how it’s still 1-0, but while it is Spurs have still got a chance, as Pedro Porro plays a great ball in!
“Ohhhh! Oh, my word! As I’ve said it, back stick, great ball in by Pedro Porro down the right-hand side. It fizzes across the six-yard box.
“Wilson Odobert comes in, he’s sliding on his bum, he just doesn’t get there, he gets a contact, but doesn’t get enough on it and it goes past the post. Oh my word, Ederson’s at the front post, if it hits the target it’s a goal.
“You talk about timing, coming to me I was getting him off! Ahhh it was a little bit far, it comes off the bottom of his studs. Missed opportunity for Spurs.”
Odobert had one of the clearest chances of the entire game, other than Haaland’s early opener, but he was just unable to make proper contact with Porro’s cross into the middle.

Tottenham show positive signs despite Premier League defeat
Postecoglou’s players showed plenty of grit and determination, enough to get one final win over Guardiola, who could now be in his final season at Man City.
It was his star’s finishing in front of goal that ultimately let Spurs down in the end, with Pape Sarr also having a guilt-edge chance fly right over the crossbar with just minutes left of the game.

Having only just returned from injury, Tottenham’s Odobert has certainly been a welcomed character back in the changing room, making a decent impact in his last two appearances.
Sadly, defeat for the Lilywhites meant dropping back down to 13th in the Premier League table after Crystal Palace’s impressive win over Aston Villa, leaving them 13 points adrift of fifth place.
Postecoglou’s only chance at success now is securing the Europa League title, and the team can take one step towards that when facing AZ Alkmaar on Thursday (6 March).
It is certainly not a positive season for the manager and this Tottenham side but there is still a chance for success.
