Michael Dawson warns Tottenham that West Ham star is the best at what he does

Former defender Michael Dawson has warned the current Tottenham team to prepare for a tough time against Andy Carroll this weekend, claiming he is the best at what he does.

The north London club are currently preparing to make the short trip across England’s capital to the London stadium which will see them take on the Hammers for the early Saturday afternoon kick off.

Spurs have boasted a very good defensive record in the league with stars Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and new signing Davinson Sanchez keeping the goals against total at just three conceded from five league games.

Carroll himself has remained goalless in the new campaign from two starts, but Dawson has insisted that he can be a handful and that the powerful forward is the best at what he does.

“I remember that first game against him! I’ve played against Andy on numerous occasions now and although I never played against Duncan Ferguson (ex-Everton, Rangers, Scotland striker, now coach at Everton) I can imagine it being very similar to that,” told Dawson, as quoted by the official Tottenham website.

“He’s an absolute handful. Every time the ball comes into the penalty area in the air, you can expect him to win it. You just have to make sure you are in position to win the second balls and the knock downs, that’s the danger.

“West Ham play to his strengths, they get the ball wide and when they cross it, as a defender, you are looking to get close to him and try to stop him taking a clear run at it. He’s so powerful and difficult to stop – he’s the best at what he does by a country mile. If it’s an out-and-out jump, nine times out of 10 he will win that ball.”

Carroll, 28, has been at West Ham since the summer of 2012, joining on an initial loan deal before signing permanently for a fee of around £15million.

He has heavily suffered with injuries since, but he has still managed a commendable return of 30 goals and 17 assists in 116 appearances for the club.

The nine-time capped England international will also be keen to get on the goal charts for the first time this season, but he will face difficult opposition in the Tottenham defenders.
