Owen makes bold prediction for 'fascinating' West Ham v Arsenal clash

Former Liverpool and England striker Michael Owen has stated that he expects West Ham to pick up a result against a “desperate” Arsenal side when they go head-to-head on Wednesday.

The Hammers come into the clash off the back of an impressive 1-0 win over reigning Premier League champions Chelsea on Saturday, with Marko Arnautovic’s first goal for the club securing the three points, although it was not enough to drag them out of the relegation zone, currently sitting 18th.

Arsenal meanwhile had to come back from behind to secure a single point away at Southampton, Olivier Giroud scoring late on at St Mary’s, a result which kept them in fifth, a point ahead of fierce rivals Tottenham.

With David Moyes’ side with their tails up after securing victory over their London rivals, Owen is backing the Hammers to pick up another result against another of the capital’s clubs, boldly naming them as his favourites to secure the full three points.

Backing a draw or a win for West Ham on his blog for BetVictor, he said: “A fascinating game at the London Stadium with West Ham looking to build on a fabulous win against champions Chelsea at the weekend and Arsenal desperate to return to winning ways having salvaged a point at St Mary’s courtesy of Olivier Giroud’s late header.

“Arsene Wenger must do without the injured Aaron Ramsay, which is a blow to the Gunners, and I was taken with the Hammers spirit and defensive qualities against Chelsea.

“If there is to be a winner midweek, I think it will be the hosts.”

West Ham have picked up just one win in their last 19 matches with the Gunners, a run which stretches back a decade to 2007, with 15 of those matches ending in victory for Arsene Wenger and his men.

In other West Ham news, the club have reportedly been offered the chance to snap up this Premier League striker in January.
