Michael Owen predicts Liverpool v Manchester City
By Harvey Byrne
Michael Owen has predicted an entertaining goal-fest for Liverpool’s encounter against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
The Merseyside giants are currently gearing themselves up for a clash against Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad Stadium.
When the club’s last met in December the Reds ran out 1-0 victors with a Georginio Wijnaldum strike.
However, former striker Owen believes it will be far more entertaining this time around with both side’s having their own defensive and goalkeeper issues.
“I was disappointed by the tactics employed by Pep Guardiola at Monaco in the Champions League midweek and can only think it must be very difficult and frustrating to play behind such an attacking side,” wrote Owen in his Bet Victor column.
“David Luiz has looked like a world-beater so far this season for Chelsea as the central defender in their back three but he plays behind N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic – I would love to see City’s England international John Stones play that particular role with that defensive shield in front of him.
“City have lost five of their last six PL meetings with Liverpool and it is hard to see past a goal-fest at the Etihad on Sunday. The Reds are unbeaten in nine against the sides who currently also occupy places in the top six in the PL table and it promises to be a great game of football.”
Both Liverpool and Manchester City have the worst goals against tallies in the top four with 29 and 35 conceded respectively.
The Reds do however boast the best goals for tally in the top-flight, while City possess the attacking talents of Sergio Aguero.
With the match being broadcast on Sky Sports 1, neutrals will be hoping Owen’s prediction comes true, while fans will just be grateful for three points in a match which sees third take on fourth.
A win for Liverpool could see them move up to second place in the Premier League depending on results elsewhere, while a defeat could see both Arsenal and Manchester United close the gap on themselves.
In other Liverpool news, Moreno has hailed this Reds summer signing as outstanding.
