Michael Owen predicts Tottenham clash v Southampton, expects record to be broken

By Amir Mir

Michael Owen has predicted Tottenham to beat Southampton on Wednesday evening at the St. Mary’s Stadium.

TV pundit Owen has backed Spurs to break the Saints record of not conceding in their last three Premier League home games.

Antonio Conte’s Chelsea were the last team to score in the south coast, when Eden Hazard and Diego Costa were on target in late October.

Since then Liverpool, Everton and Middlesbrough have failed to find the back of the net as Claude Puel’s men have picked up seven points from those three encounters.

But former Liverpool striker Owen believes Mauricio Pochettino’s side will break the Saints’ defensive barrier during their festive contest.

“Former Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino may have to be patient on his return to St Mary’s, but I think the visitors can take the points in what promises to be a cracking contest,” Owen wrote in his Bet Victor column.

“The Saints haven’t conceded at home in the PL for over five hours but that proud record is likely to go against a Spurs side who certainly have goals in their locker.”

If the away side are to pick up all three points then they will be relying upon star striker Harry Kane to deliver the goods.

The England international has scored seven goals in 12 Premier League games this season, but he has failed to find the back of the net during his last three encounters.

Pochettino’s side are one point and place below north London rivals Arsenal in the table, knowing a positive result could seem them leapfrog their neighbours in the table.

However, the top four chasers have only picked up one point on the road in their last three games – a 1-1 draw against Arsenal, losing the other two matches to Chelsea and Manchester United.

In other Tottenham news, these three Southampton players could end Spurs’ title challenge.
