Midfielder Michael Tonge has warned Leeds that his Port Vale side are travelling to Elland Road full of confidence ahead of Wednesday’s League Cup clash.

The now 34-year-old spent three years at the Yorkshire giants between 2012 and 2015 after Neil Warnock brought him to the club following the pair working together at Sheffield United.

However, it was an unsuccessful spell for the Manchester-born man and in the summer of 2015 he was released at the end of his contract after 76 appearances.

He has since revived his career at Stevenage before linking up with former Sheffield United and Leeds teammate Michael Brown at Port Vale in the summer and in Tuesday’s press conference, as quoted by the official Port Vale Twitter account, Tonge told that there is no reason why his side can’t achieve a surprise victory over Leeds.

Leeds will be going into Wednesday’s clash expecting to progress to the League Cup’s second round against a Port Vale side who suffered relegation to League Two in the last campaign.

Last season Leeds got as far as the fifth round in the cup competition before suffering a 2-0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield and fans will be hoping for a similar run this time around.

In other Leeds news, the Whites have suffered a blow as 26-year-old agrees terms with a Premier League outfit.
