Michail Antonio could be frozen out at West Ham after latest development – pundit

Kevin Campbell has claimed West Ham look “more of a threat” when Gianluca Scamacca is on the pitch after his maiden Premier League goal.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 23-year-old has “changed things” after the Irons faithful began to grow “restless” with their sides’ performances.

Scamacca recorded his first Premier League goal last weekend (1 October) with a curling strike from the edge of the box.

The Italy international then followed that goal up with his fourth strike in five European games after scoring the winner against Anderlecht on Thursday (6 October).

Scamacca had started just one league match prior to Saturday’s game – with experienced striker Antonio preferred to the reported £35.5million signing.

The Jamaica international has managed three goals in 11 appearances and 573 minutes of action this term.

Campbell suggested Scamacca’s introduction has been key to “important” back-to-back wins at West Ham with David Moyes under pressure.

He told Football Insider: “They’ve been trying to get the balance right.

“Scamacca has been in the team for the Conference League, but on the bench in the league games.

“I think getting him and Bowen at the top end of the pitch playing together – they looked more of a threat.

“We know what Antonio brings to the table, but Scamacca is a handful.

“I think it’s a real tick in a box and an important couple of wins for West Ham because the locals were starting to get a bit restless.

“There weren’t many signs of them making that progress, but Scamacca looks to have changed things and it was an important win.”
