Mike Maignan to Chelsea: Source updates on ‘quick’ transfer
Chelsea will be challenged by Juventus in the race for AC Milan keeper Mike Maignan, sources have told Football Insider.
Maignan was linked with a move to Chelsea during the most recent transfer window, but the deal ultimately fell through.
The 30-year-old’s contract with AC Milan expires at the end of the season, and there is still no indication that he will sign a new deal.
However, sources say that Chelsea will face competition from Juventus for Maignan and will have to move quickly to sign the goalkeeper.
Chelsea to face further Mike Maignan competition in the summer
Chelsea could agree a cut-price deal for Maignan in January, as it is the last chance for AC Milan to cash in on the shot-stopper.
However, if the Italian club choose to bite the bullet and let him leave in the summer, then the Blues could be one of a number of sides interested in the Frenchman.
Enzo Maresca’s side do have the chance to agree a pre-contract deal with Maignan when the window reopens.
If they don’t tie the Milan keeper down when the window reopens though, there will be a lot more competition to fend off when the season ends.
Chelsea looking to boost revenue
Meanwhile, Chelsea are exploring innovative ways to boost their revenues and take advantage of their prime location at Stamford Bridge, sources have told Football Insider.
BlueCo, which is spearheaded by chairman Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, took over Chelsea from Roman Abramovich in May 2022, with the deal worth £4.25billion.
BBC Sport reported on 6 November that the Blues are offering premium members a chance to host a dinner party in the home dressing room at Stamford Bridge, with the experience costing £16,000 for up to 30 guests.
Sources say Chelsea’s location in west London – one of the most affluent areas in the country – provides them with a unique opportunity to offer new hospitality packages to boost their revenues.
