Mikel Arteta ‘annoyed’ at Arsenal defender as footage analysed – pundit
Mikel Arteta is right to be annoyed about Takehiro Tomiyasu’s red card for Arsenal against Crystal Palace (21 August).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton said referee David Coote’s decision could have cost the Gunners a win.
As shown on Sky Sports (21 August), the 24-year-old was given a second yellow card for a push on Jordan Ayew.
The defender was initially booked for time wasting just seven minutes before the second yellow card was shown.
Arteta’s side went on to win the game 1-0 despite a tough contest.
When asked what he made of the decision, Hutton told Football Insider: “I must admit from where the referee is standing it looks as though he maybe got a little grab of Ayew.
“But when you look at it again, he has just leaned on his back ever so slightly. It is really harsh and that decision could lose you the game.
“You can understand why Arteta is fuming about the situation. As a manager I would be more annoyed about the first booking for doing something daft but the second was not a booking for me.“

The Gunners welcome Fulham to the Emirates on Saturday (26 August) where they will attempt to continue their top flight winning streak.
Arteta’s side were 2-1 winners against Nottingham Forest on the opening day of the season before their win at Selhurst Park last weekend.
