Mikel Arteta could be ‘sacked’ by Arsenal, extraordinary claim emerges
Mikel Arteta will face serious questions over his position as Arsenal manager if they fail to win the Premier League or Champions League this season.
Arsenal lost 3-2 to Man United last time out, cutting their lead at the top of the league to just four points after they missed the chance to go nine clear last weekend.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Arteta is expected to lead his team to major silverware with this season seen as his best chance.
Both Liverpool and Man City have dipped below their usual high levels, while the Gunners have come close in the past before late-season drop-offs.
There are now growing fears the same could happen again with their lead at the top being eaten into by both City and Aston Villa after back-to-back poor results.

Mikel Arteta facing serious questions at Arsenal
Football Insider revealed in November that Arsenal are planning contract talks with Arteta, with an extension to his deal to be offered at the end of the season.
However, should they fail to win major silverware despite what is seen as their best opportunity, they could pull the plug on his time at the club instead.
“If Arsenal don’t win the league this time, serious questions will be asked,” Brown told Football Insider.
“Arteta really could be sacked, and it sounds harsh because of what he’s done with this team, but they fall off from strong positions time and time again.
“This should be their year, Liverpool are miles off it, Man City haven’t been at their best.
“Arsenal are never going to win every game, that would be unrealistic, at some point during the season they are going to drop points.
“But that lead at the top of the league is being cut down and that’s when things start to get nervy.
“The pressure comes from outside too, if you’re top of the league and you draw a match, the narrative is they’ve bottled it, let alone if they go and lose.
“Arsenal now have to stand up and be counted, they have to prove they can go on to win it from this position because in years gone by they haven’t been able to.
“If the same thing happens again, they get into a strong position and then they throw it away, that’s when you have to look at the manager.”
Arsenal set to smash record with Premier League win
Not only would lifting the Premier League be a major success for Arsenal and his side on the pitch, but the club would benefit massively as well.
Football Insider revealed on 23 January that Arsenal will smash their record revenue if they lift the title, with their success also having major impacts behind the scenes.
Arsenal posted a club-record revenue in their latest published accounts for 2023-24 after their turnover surged from £467million to £617m.

Deloitte’s 2026 Money League has revealed the Gunners’ revenue improved to £690m last season, having finished second in the Premier League table
Sources have told Football Insider that Arsenal’s revenue will surpass £700m if they win the Premier League and progress into the latter rounds of the Champions League.
