Miller: These are the players Rangers must sign this summer to close gap on Celtic
By Harry Sykes
Kenny Miller has admitted the current Rangers squad “need help” as he urged Pedro Caixinha to sign players this summer of the “right calibre”.
Miller spoke of his frustration at the size of the gap between the Light Blues and their bitter rivals Celtic after expressing his delight at signing a new contract.
The veteran striker, 37, has been handed a new one-year contract that will keep him at Ibrox until he is 38.
It is reward for a campaign in which he has been one of the few Rangers players to emerge with any credit as their bid to challenge champions Celtic soon fell flat.
Miller is in no doubt that recruitment during the forthcoming transfer window will be key to laying the foundations for a title challenge next season as he stressed the need for players with winning mentality who can drive on the current group.

“There will be comings and goings no doubt in the summer and it is important that the guys coming in are the right calibre, who can take us to that level where we are going to be more competitive,” Miller said, as quoted by the Mail. “Because, for me, it is a strange situation when we are playing catch-up so far back.
“I’ve got a personal pride in what I do. I don’t want to be playing second fiddle, so recruitment will be key.
“Get characters in who have got that mind set that are not going to be willing to settle for second best.
“The lads need help. They need signings who are going to drive on the lads who are already here while improving the quality of the squad.
“We have to get back challenging —and it will be tough. Every team always looks to strengthen. Celtic will strengthen, Aberdeen and Hearts will strengthen. So it is important we get the right players.”
Rangers and Celtic go head to head for the final team this season in Saturday lunchtime’s Scottish Premiership clash at Ibrox.
It comes just six days after the Glasgow rivals played the Scottish Cup semi-final, which was comfortably won 2-0 by Brendan Rodgers’ side.
In other Rangers transfer news, Caixinha has made emphatic decisions on four players.
