Mills: Aston Villa are better off without Grealish after Purslow reveal
Aston Villa are in a stronger position than last season even though they have sold Jack Grealish, according to Danny Mills.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender heaped praise on the Villa hierarchy for their recruitment this summer.
Grealish finally completed a move to Manchester City yesterday (5 August).
Villa chief executive Christian Purslow revealed the club have replaced the former captain’s key playing attributes with their new additions.
The Midlands outfit have added Emiliano Buendia, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings so far this summer.
“On the face of it, Jack Grealish has been a superstar, club captain and hero,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He’s carried them well for the past few seasons and has been great for them.
“What they have now got in are four or five players in who are very, very capable.
“You lose your superstar but you get four or five good players in. This is not like when Tottenham went and blew the £90million Gareth Bale money on Tom, Dick and Harry. They bought a lot of sketchy players who did not know anything about English football and it was a complete waste.
“Whereas Villa have to be commended in all of this. They clearly knew Grealish was going to leave a long time ago, they knew it was coming. So, they’ve said ‘Let’s go and replace him before he leaves so we’re not up against the wall’.
“The players they’ve brought in means they are in a better position than they arguably were with just Grealish on his own.”
