Mills: Aston Villa told to sign Ward-Prowse on one condition after Source update today
Danny Mills has claimed Aston Villa should only sign James Ward-Prowse if Jack Grealish leaves.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender suggested there was not room for both of them plus new signing Emiliano Buendia.
Football Insider revealed today (June 16) via Villa sources that owners Wes Edens and Naseef Sawiris are keen to do everything they can to land the Southampton captain.
Ward-Prowse is a top target for Villa who are looking to build on their 11th-place finish in the Premier League.
They have already added Buendia from Norwich City for a club-record fee and the deal totals £57million including wages.
“A lot will depend on Grealish and whether he stays or he goes,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Then you’ve got the Barkley situation. If he goes back to Chelsea where does he go next? It doesn’t look like he’s going to fit in at Chelsea any time soon.
“They’ve already brought in Buendia so McGinn, Grealish, Ward-Prowse all play in similar positions so…
“Also, are Southampton going to want to let him go? He’s a big part of what Southampton are so I’m pretty sure they’re going to be asking for top dollar for him.
“A lot of that will depend on the Jack Grealish situation and whether he stays or he goes.”
Ward-Prowse has gained a reputation as one of the Premier League’s finest free-kick takers.
He has 30 goals and 31 assists in 269 Premier League games for his boyhood club, including eight goals and seven assists from league matches this season.
