Danny Mills has suggested Jack Grealish and Ross Barkley could be slotted back into the Aston Villa starting XI against Fulham on Sunday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England and Leeds United defender delivered his verdict after Grealish returned to full training after missing six games with a leg injury.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Dean Smith declared his talismanic skipper available for the game.
Villa have recorded just one win and scored three goals without Grealish.
Smith’s side is dying out for creativity but Barkley has still had to settle for a place on the bench.
However, Mills has suggested the pair’s chemistry that was on display in the early parts of the season, could see them both start at Villa Park.
He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “They work well together and bounce off each other.
“That’s something you might only see in the dressing room and all the training ground – that chemistry and that understanding of each other.
“Players bounce off each other and enjoy each other. They get the best out of each other.
“Maybe that’s why Barkley has missed Grealish. It’s a distinct possibility that the two enjoy playing with each other.
“They enjoy what they do, they bounce off each other’s games and they improve each other. If that’s the case and that’s what the manager sees there’s every chance.”
Barkley began life in the Midlands with two goals and an assist in his first six appearances but his form has suffered since picking up a hamstring injury.
Meanwhile, Grealish is having arguably his best season in Claret and Blue having provided 12 assists and scoring six goals in the league.
