Mills: Bielsa tipped to name surprise Bamford replacement as Leeds footage emerges

Danny Mills has tipped Marcelo Bielsa to spring a surprise with his replacement for Patrick Bamford in Leeds United v West Ham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender admitted he was not impressed with neither Rodrigo nor Tyler Roberts after watching them in person against Fulham in midweek.

Bielsa revealed in his pre-West Ham press conference that Bamford will miss this weekend’s clash with an ankle injury.

Twitter user @rugbyleaguelady posted videos earlier today (September 24) of the Leeds squad, including Rodrigo and Roberts, arriving at the team hotel.

“Tyler Roberts didn’t really have an impact against Fulham,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“I was a little bit disappointed because it was a sort of game where you go ‘Here you go young man, here’s an opportunity, go and grasp it with both hands’. He’ll know the injury situation, that was a great opportunity to stake your claim and if you do well you may well stay in the team.

“Rodrigo missed some chances too. They were good chances. He looked like he was lacking a bit of confidence.

“Tyler Roberts didn’t do anything particularly great. I don’t know if he was substituted to be rested with what’s coming up or whether he was not doing what Marcelo Bielsa wanted.

“You would think it would be Rodrigo but Bielsa has done some different things in the past. It’s going to be one of those where we wait and see to see what he decides to do.”
