Mills digs at anxious Kennedy and claims he’s written Gerrard’s Rangers team talk pre-Celtic
John Kennedy has written Steven Gerrard’s Rangers team talk for him after he claimed Celtic are the best team in Scotland on their day.
That is the view of Danny Mills, speaking exclusively to Football Insider as the two sides prepare to meet each other for the fourth time this season in the Scottish Cup this weekend.
Interim Hoops boss Kennedy said after his side’s 6-0 win over Livingston last weekend: “I have full belief in the squad we have here, that on our day we are still the best team in the country.”
Rangers defender Borna Barisic labelled Kennedy’s claim as “the biggest joke I heard this year.”
Celtic earned a 1-1 draw with the Gers’ in the last meeting between the two sides but Rangers won the first two games when Neil Lennon was in charge.
“The interim manager is trying to give himself some confidence and a chance,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“Steve Gerrard will just be like ‘Look, just go and prove him wrong, lads. Go and show that you’re the best side in Scotland. You are the best team in Scotland because you won the league. Don’t be distracted by the noise, just go out and play your football. Do the right thing.’
“Simple as that. That’s all you have to do.
“He’ll say ‘You are the best team, just go out and prove it. The people doubting it, go prove them wrong.’”
Rangers are 20 points ahead of Celtic in the Scottish Premiership with four games left to play.
They also reached the last 16 of the Europa League while Celtic crashed out at the group stage.
In other news, Alan Hutton has named the two “exceptional” Celtic players who can end Rangers’ double dream.
