Danny Mills has tipped Leeds United forward Rodrigo Moreno to start in the number 10 role against Everton on Saturday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley, the former Whites and England full-back praise the Spain international’s ability to open up a defence.
Leeds’ headline summer signing returned to Marcelo Bielsa’s side in their 0-0 draw against Arsenal last weekend with a bright 20-minute cameo and almost won the game with a late shot that hit the crossbar.
It was his first appearance in a white shirt since entering a period of self-isolation at the beginning of November.
This site revealed on Thursday his performances in training have been “scintillating” and have blown away his teammates.
Mills told Football Insider: “I think there’s a great chance of him starting.
“He adds that little bit of quality and with Pablo Hernandez out as well at the moment you need somebody to have a bit of guile, to pick a pass and open up a defence at times.
“He’s a bit more attacking than Stuart Dallas and Kalvin Phillips that played last week in those positions against Arsenal.
“He can play behind Patrick Bamford in a number 10 role or just off the right-hand side.
“I think he’s a quality player.
“Bielsa obviously wanted him to be super fit and up to speed like all of his players and if that’s the case, there’s every chance he will start.”
Hernandez has not played for Leeds since reacting angrily to being substituted against Leicester City at the beginning of November.
He was omitted for their game against Crystal Palace with no reason given but has since picked up a knock that Bielsa confirmed will keep him out of the visit to Goodison Park.
In other Leeds United news, Noel Whelan is in no doubt that an 18-year-old is set for a promotion to the first XI.
