Mills: Greenwood is set to transform into Man United ‘monster’ after Rangnick reveal

Ralf Rangnick may be about to turn Mason Greenwood into a “monster” at Man United, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender delivered his verdict after Ralf Rangnick called on Greenwood to bulk up.

As quoted by Sky Sports yesterday (9 December), Rangnick claimed the 20-year-old has to “develop physically” if he wants to be a regular starter.

It came after Greenwood scored his fifth goal of the season in his 16th appearance during the 1-1 draw with Young Boys in the Champions League (8 December).

“What Rangnick probably means is he wants him to be a bit more robust,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“We know he’s a fantastic finisher but maybe he is a bit slight at times, maybe he gets pushed off the ball.

“Mourinho said to Tammy Abraham ‘I want you to be a monster, I want you to go and destroy teams, not just with your ability but your physicality’. You think ‘Why not?’

“David Pleat would always say ‘Do you want a good little one or a good big one?’ Well, a good big one always beats a good little one.

“Two people of the same ability, if one is bigger and quicker I know which one I’m putting my money on time and time again.

“It’s probably a case of ‘Look, this kid has got all the ability in the world, I just need to get a bit more out of him’. Maybe that doesn’t mean bulking up and becoming like some of the Bayern Munich players like Leon Goretzka.

“It might mean ‘I want him to work a little bit harder, put a little more graft in to become a better player’.

“Bulk up can be a point of saying ‘You did well, but you need to push on and do better’.
