Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s return from injury has given Everton their best chance of beating Liverpool on Saturday, according to Danny Mills.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England and Leeds United defender claimed Liverpool’s recent poor form means this weekend’s Merseyside derby has come at the perfect time for Everton.
The Toffees have not won at Anfield in the Premier League since October 2010 but Liverpool are winless in their last five home games.
Calvert-Lewin has missed Everton’s last two league games and the Toffees scored just once in his absence.
Carlo Ancelotti confirmed in his pre-match press conference that the England international is ready to start against Premier League champions.
“It’s a huge game, isn’t it,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley. “An absolutely huge game.
“Nobody expected Liverpool to be in this sort of slump that they’re in at the moment.
“Everton have not beaten Liverpool in a very long time so this an opportunity and a real chance as Liverpool have played in midweek with a better performance although Leipzig were not particularly good defensively.
“But with Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, this could be a really good game. It’s Everton’s best chance of beating Liverpool for a long, long time.
“Nothing will be sweeter to the Everton fans.”
Calvert-Lewin has scored 13 Premier League goals this season – including two in his last two league appearances.
In 11 appearances against Liverpool, the 23-year-old has scored just once – the late equaliser in October’s 2-2 draw at Goodison Park.
