Mills in awe of Moyes after 'unbelievable' West Ham development

David Moyes is underrated and has proven at West Ham how good of a manager he is, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England and Man City full-back delivered his verdict after Moyes oversaw his 1000th game in management this week.

He marked the landmark achievment with a 2-2 draw away to Genk in the Europa League to maintain West Ham’s unbeaten record in the competition.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Declan Rice hailed his manager’s “unbelievable” achievment but admitted he was upset they had not delivered the win to mark the moment.

“It wasn’t great for Steve Bruce!” Mills joked to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whtiley.

“I think he’s underrated. Think of the spells he had with Preston and Everton for a long, long time.

“Ok, the job at Man United, he didn’t really get much time. That was difficult, it certainly was an easy one to take over from Alex Ferguson with an ageing squad and other issues.

“He’s proven at West Ham, give David Moyes time and he’ll get it right.

“He’s a good manager, a good coach, he gets good people around him. He knows what he’s doing and that’s vitally important.

“He’s shrewd in the transfer market, he looks at the whole player, what they need. It’s not just ‘He’s a good player’. It’s about does he fit in? Does he fit in to our style and the ethos of the club? All those other factors are important.

“That’s why he’s really, really good.”
