Mills issues ‘big’ verdict on Everton appointing Cannavaro after source update today
It would be a “big risk” if Everton appointed Fabio Cannavaro as their next manager, according to Danny Mills.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender insisted Cannavaro was a “legend” as a player but does not have sufficient experience as a manager to succeed Rafa Benitez.
An Everton source has told Football Insider today that the former Italy captain has impressed club chiefs and is a firm target after being interviewed for the post.

The 48-year-old has spent his entire managerial career in China – bar a short spell with Saudia club Al-Nassr.
Former England teammates Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney are also being interviewed for the role.
“It would be a big risk,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“That’s all about the name. I would suggest Everton be careful with that. They did it with Benitez, they did it with Carlo Ancelotti. They went for big stellar names.
“Cannavaro has less experience than Frank Lampard in terms of where Frank has managed and the quality of player he’s worked with.
“Cannavaro is one of the greatest defenders of all time, he was unbelievable. An exceptional captain, World Cup winner, legend.
“But it’s a heck of a gamble. That’s a big, big gamble.
“We don’t even know anything about his style of play or anything like that. This is a very left-field one if it was to happen.”

As a player, Cannavaro won the World Cup and Balon D’Or in 2006.
As a manager, his only major honour was the Chinese Super League with Guangzhou Evergrande in 2019.
