Mills issues 'huge' Bowen claim as new Liverpool 'rumours' baffle him

Jarrod Bowen is a “fantastic player” and is having a great season at West Ham, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England and Man City defender delivered his verdict after Bowen moved onto nine Premier League assists for the season.

After setting up three goals in the 4-1 win over Watford on Tuesday (28 December) the 25-year-old now has the joint-most assists in the top-flight along with Mohamed Salah.

The Liverpool Echo reported on Boxing Day that Bowen is a “player of interest” for Liverpool ahead of the January window.

As quoted by football.london on Tuesday, David Moyes insisted he is getting better and better and is demonstrating more maturity with his decision making.

“He’s a fantastic player and has made a huge improvement,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Clearly talented but has that hard work and energy which makes a huge difference.

“But where would he play for Liverpool? That would be my question. A substitute, I would suggest. He’s not going to play ahead of Mo Salah or Sadio Mane.

“Yes, a great talent who has done fantastically well but where have these rumours come from?

“Admiring a player and putting a bid in are two completely different things. Is it an agent angling for a slightly better contract?”

Bowen’s current West Ham contract is set to expire in the summer of 2025 after he penned a long-term deal when he joined in January 2020.

The winger now has 12 goals and 18 assists in 70 Premier League games for the Hammers.
