Mills issues 'wow' verdict on Leeds completing 'stellar signing' after Aaronson bid update

Danny Mills has claimed Brenden Aaronson would not be a “stellar signing” for Leeds United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender claimed the transfer business done by the club under Marcelo Bielsa has been underwhelming.

A club source told Football Insider last Friday (21 January) they have increased their bid to Red Bull Salzburg for Aaronson to £20million.

The Yorkshire giants had their initial offer of £15million knocked back by the Austrian club.

“That’s what the Red Bull clubs do,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“They cultivate young talent and sell them on for large profits.

“I think they would admit themselves they are a stepping stone club. The player does well out of it, they do well out of it, why would they not do it?

“As a player, you want to come to a league that is regarded as the best in the world.

“But it’s not that stellar signing that everybody is looking for.

“After being told there’s a big transfer kitty, if that’s the only player that comes in, you put it to the fans, is that enough? Do they want more given the situation they are in?

Raphinha has been good, he’s one of the better signings. Robin Koch’s been Ok, Diego Llorente hasn’t played enough. Junior Firpo is in and out.

“If you go through all the signings made under Marcelo Bielsa there aren’t too many that leap off the page and make you go wow at.

“We know he likes to play at a high tempo with a high pressing game and we’ve seen him like to take a month to get a player up to speed in training and how they play.

“All of a sudden you’re nearly in March with just April and May left of the season. You’d have to assume a young player would be one for the future not really one to make a huge impact on this season.”
