Mills: Liverpool defender tipped for debut v Man City as training HQ pictures emerge

Danny Mills has tipped Ben Davies to make his Liverpool debut against Manchester City on Sunday.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Whites and England defender insisted Fabinho and Jordan Henderson were needed in the midfield battle against their title rivals.

Davies and fellow defender Ozan Kabak moved to Anfield on deadline day as Joel Matip was ruled out for the rest of the season with an ankle ligament injury.

Kabak was not available for the visit of Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday night while Davies was named on the bench.

The pair trained with their new teammates during the week but Mills has claimed Davies could get the nod because he has been with the squad longer.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Jordan Henderson has done incredibly well at the back, as has Fabinho.

“The problem is when you do that, you take something away from the midfield area and against Manchester City you have to be so good in midfield, you have to have energy in there. Georginio Wijnaldum and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may be able to deal with it but you just feel that with Fabinho and Henderson in there would give them more of a chance and more confidence, I would say.

“He may well be tempted and it depends who has been doing well in training, who has settled in the quickest.

“Davies hasn’t had to move home, he’s in familiar surroundings. He’s not had all the travel and all those other things that you associate with a player moving to a different country.

“That’s part of it as well. It’s going to be interesting to see because if Liverpool lose this they’re done and dusted for the title.”

In other news, Liverpool have set their sights on a Leeds United player who has “blown away” their scouts.
