Mills makes ‘huge’ Calvert-Lewin claim at Everton after major news

Dominic Calvert-Lewin can be the “catalyst” to help inspire a turnaround in form at Everton, according to Danny Mills.

The former England defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 24-year-old will “make a huge difference” for the Toffees upon his return from injury.

Everton have slumped to 14th in the Premier League after winning just one of their last 11 top-flight games.

As quoted by Metro on Wednesday (15 December), manager Rafa Benitez claimed the striker is getting “really close” to a return from injury – and expressed hopes he will be a “crucial player” in the rest of this campaign.

The England international has been sidelined since the end of August with a thigh injury.

When asked if Calvert-Lewin could turn Everton’s season around, Mills told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley: “He can be the catalyst without a doubt – he makes a huge difference.

“He gives them a focal point, scores goals, he gives them a different way of playing. He’s their top striker. All of a sudden it gives them the ability to score from crosses and set pieces.

“He can hold the ball up and bring others into play. All of these things can make the difference for Everton.”

Richarlison and Salomon Rondon have led the line in the absence of the talisman.

The pair have scored just four combined goals this term.
