Joachim Andersen would be a “Tottenham signing” and not one Jose Mourinho would want, according to Danny Mills.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England and Leeds United defender insisted Mourinho will want to bring in experienced defenders who can slot straight in.
Football.London‘s Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold reports Fulham centre-back Andersen is one of a number of centre-backs Spurs are considering moving for in the summer.
The Denmark international is enjoying a season-long loan at Craven Cottage from French side Lyon.
He has captained Scott Parker’s side in more than half of his 24 Premier League appearances this season.
Despite Fulham struggling at the bottom end of the table, they have conceded just 38 goals in 30 games with Andersen playing a key role.
However, Mills is not convinced the 24-year-old has proven himself ready to step up to a top-six side.
He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “It comes down to experience, doesn’t it.
“It would be a bit of a gamble, perhaps.
“When you look at Mourinho, he wants experience, he wants tried and trusted. He hasn’t got the time next season to bring through a young player who might make the odd mistake. He needs ready-made good centre-halves if he’s going to improve Tottenham.
“It might be a Tottenham signing, one for the future. But not a Mourinho signing.”
Andersen still has three years left on his Lyon contract and Fulham have no option to make the loan deal permanent.
The 6’2″ colossus also has four Denmark caps under his belt.
