Mills: Ndombele may be 'surplus to requirements' at Tottenham after major update
Tanguy Ndombele is “surplus to requirements” at Tottenham and former outcast Dele Alli is going to take his place, according to Danny Mills.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Manchester City and England defender delivered his verdict after Ndombele was left out of Spurs’ 25-man Europa Conference League squad.
The Frenchman was not even on the bench as Tottenham got their Premier League campaign off to a winning start against Manchester City at the weekend.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side now travel to Portugal for their Europa Conference League tie with Pacos de Ferreira.
Both Ndombele and Serge Aurier have not been included in the 25-man squad for both legs.
“Ndombele is a really interesting one,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Mourinho really didn’t fancy him at all, early on. He outed him in the press several times with his fitness and during the first covid situation. He made his discontent with Ndombele quite apparent.
“But then he almost became the first name on the teamsheet under Mourinho. He was playing week in, week out under Mourinho.
“If Nuno doesn’t fancy him, Daniel Levy is not going to loosen the purse strings. If you want to bring players in you’re going to have to lose some players.
“Ndombele’s now seen as surplus to requirements. Dele Alli is going to be the guy to come back and rejuvenate himself then you’ve got an excess of players in that position.”
Ndombele moved to Spurs for a club-record fee of £55million, plus a further £9million in add-ons in July 2019.
The 24-year-old has now scored eight times and provided eight assists in 75 games across all competitions for Tottenham.
