Mills ‘really surprised’ by ‘massive’ update on Tottenham manager hunt

Danny Mills has admitted he is “really surprised” it has taken so long for Tottenham to draw up a four-man shortlist of candidates to be their next manager.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender insisted Spurs need to make their decision “sooner rather than later”.

The Athletic report the club have narrowed down their list of candidates to Erik ten Hag, Ralf Rangnick, Roberto Martinez and Graham Potter.

It comes after Football Insider revealed they had given up their hopes of luring Brendan Rodgers from Leicester City after he was placed on their initial shortlist.

It is understood Tottenham want somebody with proven Premier League pedigree and big club experience as their next boss.

“The appointment of the next Spurs manager is massive,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Possibly without Harry Kane and a few other players as well.

“It’s a huge decision that they’ve got to right sooner or later because you’ve got to start planning for next season.

“The players will start looking at the future and other clubs may come knocking on the door and try and get their business done quickly before the Euros start.

“It’s something they need to get done sooner rather than later and I’m really surprised it’s taken this long to just get to a shortlist.”

When Mauricio Pochettino left Tottenham in November 2019, Jose Mourinho was appointed the next day.

The Portuguese left the club over a month ago and former midfielder Ryan Mason was placed in interim charge until the end of the season.

In other news, Tottenham have no problem selling a “genius” player and £15m profit will seal the deal.
