Mills shares intriguing Aston Villa tactical prediction after latest signings completed
Danny Mills has suggested Aston Villa could line up in a 5-3-2 formation after completing the signing of Danny Ings.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League and England defender also claimed Dean Smith could utilise a traditional 4-4-2 formation.
Aston Villa announced the surprise signing of Ings yesterday (4 August) on a three-year deal.
It has been reported by the Guardian that the Midlands giants have paid a £25million fee to Southampton for the 29-year-old.
He had just 12 months left to run on his Saints contract and had made it clear he wanted to leave the club.
Asked how Villa could line up with Ings in their side, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “It could easily be a 5-3-2.

“You could flip it and have a 4-3-3 or a 4-4-2. There’s a lot of options there.
“You’re assuming he’s going to play as the central striker or as part of a front two.
“Villa have made some good moves in the transfer market. You may have lost a superstar but you’ve gained four or five good players.
“It’s a decent deal. He’s a goalscorer and he’s always going to score goals, no matter what.
“You can play him alongside Ollie Watkins or up front on his own. He will get good service from the likes of Buendia and players like that.
“It’s a great signing and it’s good that it was kept under wraps. That is how it should be done.
“It was like ‘Ok, here’s your signing. It’s done and dusted’.”
