Mills stunned by ‘bizarre’ Fletcher development at Man United
Danny Mills has suggested the inexperienced Man United coaching staff are a major reason why they are not performing.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Man City and England defender insisted he found it “bizarre” that technical director Darren Fletcher was also on the Man United bench during the games.
The 3-2 win over Atalanta in the Champions League last night (October 20) was the club’s first win in their last six games across all competitions.
The Seria A outfit raced into a 2-0 lead just before the half-hour mark before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side scored three times in the second half.
“It doesn’t look like there’s any plan,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“You start to look at the coaching staff at Man United. Sir Alex Ferguson had some of the best coaches around and every now and then he would change that and update it with some of the best in the world.
“Kieran McKenna, 35-years-old, no real experience. Michael Carrick, nice guy but no real experience apart from at Man United. Mike Phelan, almost in his 60s, maybe he might have lost a bit of enthusiasm. Not quite sure how much input he will have on the training ground.
“What I find bizarre is you have Darren Fletcher on the bench. He’s the technical director, he’s upstairs on the bench! It’s a strange dynamic.
“Forget about the DNA of Man United and this nonsense. They don’t have a set plan of how they are going to play each game. It’s more of a case of you’re all good players, go and play. They look a bit rudderless.

“The performance against Leicester, Young Boys, have been really, really poor.
“If you’re going to start winning things at the highest level you can’t just have big players, you’ve got to do more than that.”
