Mills stunned by 'bizarre' Nuno twist amid Everton manager update
Danny Mills has admitted he was baffled Nuno Espirito Santo was considering taking the Crystal Palace job over Everton.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender insisted the Blues tick “so many boxes that Palace couldn’t even try to”.
An Everton source has told Football Insider today the club are in advanced talks with Nuno but a deal is not yet done.
This site revealed on June 9 Nuno had verbally agreed a deal to take over at Palace before the deal collapsed.
That paved the way for Everton to relaunch a move for the 47-year-old after previously being put off by his big backroom staff.
“I just find it bizarre that he was even considering Crystal Palace in the first place,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley. “I couldn’t get my head around it.

“It appeared that both Everton and Palace were in for him. Not being disrespectful to Palace, but they’ve got 10 players out of contract, they’ve just re-signed Benteke, recruitment is going to be very difficult. Who knows what happens to Zaha and Eze is out until Christmas.
“Whereas Everton still have the nucleus of a good squad with some good players. A very ambitious owner who’s prepared to spend money, a new stadium on the horizon, a fabulous sporting director in Marcel Brands, a very good academy with players coming through.
“I looked at it and thought ‘I don’t get why he’s even considering Palace, to be honest. I couldn’t quite understand it.
“Everton seemed to tick so many boxes that Palace couldn’t even try to.”
